Frequently Asked Questions

Certain types of parts can be recycled or, more specifically, remanufactured for future sale. These parts have a core price that is used as a form of deposit on the portion of the part that can be remanufactured and that is designed to encourage return of the old part. The “core,” simply put, is your old part. Returning cores can save you money on replacement parts. Parts that may have a core price include brake shoes, injectors, water pumps, starters, alternators and transmissions.
The sale of a remanufactured part involves the price of the part itself, as well as an additional core charge to encourage the return of the old part for remanufacturing purposes. The core charge, sometimes called a core price, is a form of deposit you pay until returning your old part. If you don’t have the core at the time of purchase, you must pay the core charge. That charge is refunded to you when you return the core. Let’s say you buy a remanufactured alternator with a $10 core charge, but you haven’t removed the old alternator yet. You must pay the core charge when you buy the part. After you replace the alternator, you return the old one to the store with your receipt (which includes the core charge). As long as the old part is in acceptable condition, the store will then refund the $10.
If you have paid a core charge for an item purchased from SIT Online, you are eligible for core credit upon return of the old core unit. Used cores can be returned at any time provided the original parts as purchased at SIT Online and that they are shipped back in the box you received with the original product. Please follow the SIT Online return process and identify the reason for the return as a “used core.” Before returning the used core, be sure to drain all fluids from the core and place it in a plastic bag to prevent leakage in transit. Then, pack the used core in the box that contained the original part you bought from SIT Online.
If you have paid a core charge from SIT Online, you are eligible for core credit upon return of the old core unit. To return a used core to SIT, bring the order confirmation/receipt to the store along with the used core unit. Used cores must be returned to stores within 30 days of purchase. A Return Goods Authorization (RGA) is not required for in-store returns. Used cores from ship-to-home orders can be returned to SIT via Purolator provided the replacement parts were purchased on SIT Webstore and that they are shipped back in the box you received with the new product. For Purolator core returns, you must download the Core Return Form found in the hyperlink on your emailed receipt. Be sure to reference the invoice number clearly on the form and put hard copy in the return box. Before returning your core, be sure to drain fluids from the core and place it in a plastic bag to prevent leakage. Then be sure to pack it in the box that contained the new part you purchased from SIT webstore. The core must be returned in the original box and the box be in good condition to be valid.
